Doctors have been working to find ways to provide viable pregnancies for infertile couples, while reducing the amount babies that the moms have to carry. Scientist in Sweden believe they have a method that will provide a solution that doctor’s worldwide have been looking for.

Using there method, reduced the amount of twins from 26% of pregnancies to 1.9% of pregnancies. With the goal of reducing the amount of twin pregnancies there also came a slight decrease in live births from 29.1% to 24.6%.

In years to come we will have to see if the method is adopted at more infertility clinics and whether the same results are replicated.

Canadian officials have seen that there is a need to institute new policies in monitoring the pregnancies of twins.  Although twins are double the blessing, there are additional possible complications that can arise from having more than one baby in the womb.  The Montreal Gazette has reported ont the new guidelines for twin pregnancies.

“Ultrasound is the only safe and reliable method for the diagnosis and assessment of twins,” said Dr. Lucie Morin, co-author of the clinical guidelines in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

“A woman carrying twins cannot simply be treated as one woman with two single pregnancies. Special monitoring and followup are required, particularly in the last three months of the pregnancy.”

With monitoring of twin pregnancies early intervention including bedrest and early delivery of the unborn babies can help the twins that may be facing problems in the womb.

Their baby girl has been named Monroe Cannon.  Monroe, like her mother, has no middle name.  Monroe was selected for the little girl’s name because it was the last name of Carey’s idol, Marilyn Monroe.  Marilyn Monroe was actually born Norma Jeane Mortenson, but baptized Norma Jeane Baker.  

Monroe Cannon’s twin brother did receive a middle name.  His parents decided to name him Moroccan Scott Cannon.   He already has the nickname of “Roc.”  His middle name of Scott is the same as his dad’s middle name.   According to Mariah Carey’s official blog, Nick proposed to her in the Morrocan room of her New York City apartment and that is the inspiration for their son’s first name.

The couple also celebrated their wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows on Sunday.  The Reverend Al Sharpton officiated the vows renewal at the hospital and spoke a blessing over the twins.

I had my baby girl this morning! Sydney arrived on her due date at 3am! Everyone is happy and healthy.

Sydney is the second child together for Ali and her husband Curtis Conway.  The couple have 2 year-old son named Curtis Muhammad Conway Jr.  Curtis Conway Sr. also has three children from a previous marriage: 15-year-old twin sons Cameron and Kelton and 11-year-old Leilani.

Ali is the daughter of heavy weight champion Muhammad Ali.  Laila Ali also did boxing herself.  Curtis Sr. is former NFL player that played for  Chicago Bears, the San Diego Chargers, the New York Jets and the San Francisco 49ers.

According to the March of Dimes, the average gestation period for twins is 35 weeks, while the average gestation period for a singleton pregnancy is 39 weeks.  Just like there are singleton pregnancies that go beyond 39 weeks, there are twin pregnancies that go beyond 35 weeks.   

No word on far along Carey is in her pregnancy.  The only clues given have been that the babies have a few more weeks and that she is due this spring.

Thalia and her husband, Tommy Mottola, are expecting their second baby together.  Thalia is a Latin super star that is internationally known for being a telenovelas actress and musical recording artist.  Tommy Mottola is a record exec that is known for helping the careers of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and a multitude of others.  Mottola and Carey were married from 1993-1998.   That marriage did not produce any children, but Carey and her current husband will also being celebrating a 2011 birth with the arrival with their twins this spring.
